EXPERTS STORM BEARDSLEY TT By Ned Sa id PHOENIX, ARI Z., March 12, 19 72 not t o o lo ng ago t he Novice races we re p acked , especially in th e 12 5 an d 250 classes. Who eve r heard of two h eats of 250 Experts and a semi-main at Beard sley ? Well it happened for the first tim e at to d a y 's TT at Beardsley. Surprisingly, the heat races in the 250 Expert class were the mos t exciting. The first heat after the first . lap looked like a restart . They were so tightly packed and changing places it was impossible to keep track of the riders. This co n tin ued right up to the checkered flag. The honors went to A rt Fredenb urg who held that tiny margin the entire: race. The second Expert 250 heat was also exciting in a different way. Every rider wen t down except one. That rider was Rick Kraft and he won the race. In the 250 Expert main event Jaye Chaney led and won the ra ce . Rob Dameron (Man) came from last palce to work his way through th e pack for a good second p lace. In the 125 Expert class main event it was Ron Adams first off the line. By the end of the straight Cliff Allison passed Ro n and kept the lead . In the meantime Bob Dias (a new Expert) took third p lace away from Larry Barrington up until the last lap . Bob came ove r the jump in a long slide and La rr y immediately regained his third place. It was Cliff, Ro n and Larry to the checkered . A new amateur, Mike Selby , moving up from the No vice class proved himself immediately by taking both the 250 and 500 Ama te u r main eve nts. T he spectators and riders were kept Informed by the race announcer who with a very articulate . clear. concise voice was magnificent in describing each event and starting line-up of riders . Who was he? None other than 12 year old T racy Robinson who normally rides in the 100 Novice class and is nursing a broken h a nd. Howard Cosell ma ke way for Tracy Robinso n. But unlike most, Tucson's also has a motocross co urse . The Tucson Sandbuggy Assn. stages a race on this course the third Sunday of every month as a prelude to their dune buggy races later on in the day. The course, which is fun although somewhat narrow and unimaginative, is carved out of the densely vegetated desert next to th e strip. The only really ~~ i ~~AUST = TUNER MORE GROUND I 10 32 W.
