Baron (Pen) wo n the fir st two m o t o s over Davey Carls on (Yam) and in th e last finis he d th ird b ehind J ohn Volkman (B ul) and Ca rlson, but co mp iled eno ugh points to gamer the overall win over Carlson's three runner-up finis hes. The final was a thriller as Ca rlso n tried to slip under Volkman at th e lin e but fe ll short by a wh eel. In his best perfo rmance of the seas on at EI Toro, Causey (Ya m) won all th ree heats d efeat ing Baron (AJS) and Mark Tyer (Yam) overall. The first moto saw a near d ead h eat b etween Causey and Baron, w ith a sligh t ed ge go ing t o Mik e, b ut h e h ad a littl e easier ti m e in th e second , winning by 25 yards o ver up and co ming Ri ch ard Duncan (Mai) . From all indicatio ns it was a tr emend ous su ccess. They h ad over 20 0 very happy beginners and novices. The races started righ t on schedule at 9:30 a.m. with the minis. Due to his co ns istency, Mike Young o n a Yamaha won th e cl ass w it h Kevin Hari o ri also on a Yam ah a in second. Lovely Dottie Frost too k third place . Next ca me the prettiest race of th e day. The p o wd er puffers were scored in two d ivisio ns, o ver 16 years o ld an d under 16 . All three mo to s in th e u nde r ' 16 d ivisio n were won b y Sandy Hogue o n a Yam ah a. In the over 16 class, Patricia Drake, Yamaha mount ed , nosed o ut Chris Bradley o n a Hod ak a . There we re en o ugh rider s in th e 100 Beginner under 16 class t o split th em into two divisions. In th e fir st divisi on. Robby Cosner, o n a Hodaka , won all three motos. In th e sec ond divi sion Lee Eide led all three motos with Ho daka-mounted Brad Newell in second. In the 100 Beginner over 16 class, K.L. Chase, Yamaha-mounted, n osed out Jim Boone on a Baja. In th e 175 Beginner class it was Dave Ellis p ickin g up all the marbles. Ric hard Stap p on a very quick Ossa took the 250 Beginner division I class. In division 11, Ma ico-mounted Mike Path em to o k the win. T he O pe n Beginner class was hotly co n tested by Randy Jordan and Jim MacDonald on Maicos with Jordan taking the win. Don Runninger on a Maico and Bill Jordan fought it o u t in the Open Novice class , with Ru nninger winni ng it . Most o f the riders said they enjoyed the ra ces and as ked when the next race was scheduled. .CRC annou nced they wo uld hold their n ext m o t ocross on March 26 at Elsinore Ra cewa y. 40% trophies will also be awarded there. CRG appears t o be a very progressive racin g club . If yo u can make it, try one of th eir races. I'm sure you'll enjoy it.
