CLEAR LAKE, CAL., Feb. 26, 19 72 The Clear Lake Mo torcycle Club came up with a perfect co mbinatio n of fine weather and the most beautiful race track 'in the state of California. The track was laid out ov er hill and da le with water crossing and all . The co m me nts o f all those in attendance said th at this was a real mo to cross track indeed. G reg Hubbs s tole the rid ing sho w with a runaway in each of the 30 mi nu te mo to s to take a beau tiful wi n in the 250 Ex pert class. Ray Atkinson and Darrell Courtw righ t h ad a re al b at tl e to keep Greg in sight at th e end of each mo to , b ut they di d end up with second and third p lace respectively . Rick Clements rode a great rac e to win the 125 Am/Ex and right on his tail charging all the time was another Penton rider Mike McGowen who finished second overall. 125 Amateur riders really had their wo rk cut out for themselves trying to keep up with the Experts, b ut a couple o f the boys did a fine job and ended up with p art of the brass. First overall was Jeff Su tton o n th e Lak esid e Honda an d t h e Flying Milk man, St eve Doll, Young collected second on his Bultac o. Rick Nelson from the Dirt Diggers North M.C. did a fine j o b in the 100 Novice class to take th e big win with a large lead in each moto. R i ck Golde (Pen) of Gene's Automotive took the win in the 12 5 Novice class to show that age makes a b ig di ffe rence in the 20 minute moto s. The riders that ended up next best, all stated that they wis hed they had started raci ng a lot sooner so they could have kept up the pace of the young rider. Nick Sturgeon (Mai) won the Open No v ice class with speedway star Bouncin' Benny McDanial finishing second. Ben ny d id live up to his nickname by testing the dirt several ti mes in each moto only to bounce right back up a nd charge on to second overall. _ The most spectatular races o f th e d ay were in th e Open Am/Ex. class. This track was well su ited to the big b ikes and these riders really did their best to use it. The o verall winner in the Expert class was super racer J im Saitone (Mail . Charging right behind him was the Open Amateur class winner Bill Rainer (Mai) .
