Sa nlll An ita Av•• Burba nk, Ca. 91502 :0 ~ III e ttc ·0···········_··· MAI CO PENTO N Bill Landsborough Wants A Four ll By Bill Spencer FREMONT, CAL., Feb. 27, 1972 Warm temperatures and dry breezes greeted nearly 300 Bay Area scrambles rid en for the second running of Fremo nt Raceway's winter scrambles series and it was definitely not a rough winter scrambles. The track was smooth , mostly, and dry. Those rid en that had been watching the weather knew that when it doesn't rain for four weeks, it's time to get out the K-70 's and go flat-tracking. With all the dry weather, the guys running for the top black plate were on hand and it in each division of Experts, it was the black pl ate riders th at w ent home with the brass and the p oints. The man with the mostest for today's run was once again, Dennis Spence. Dennis got two gre at st arts in the 250 Expert ra ce and led it from wire to wire. Mike Van Lienden was running in third at the onset but he got int o an altercation with Craig Michie that left both ly ing on the ground when Craig's Bultaco came out o f gear going into ~ tight left hander, While Van Lienden didn't get any p oints in th e 250 run he wiped out th e field in the 500 w ith a good win ov er Larry Drew. The race shaped up to be a one-way battle between Steve Foster a n d hi s Astrodo me trained Jack Lancaster Bandido , but in Steve's own inimitable way, relegated himself to a third place finish af ter a bad bobble. Another veteran turning in the wins is Glen Hall on a 350 Honda. Glen won the 500 J unior affair after a slight bump into Ernie Vick, T he Honda survived best and "Lying" Ernie was forced to keep his distance in second. The Sanchez broth en' Mexican racing team did its things once again in the 650 Junior division. Raul and Henry fought the six-lap Main out and kept the rest of the troops at bay to win by wide margins. While they are great at this IT racing stuff, if they keep it up, they will have to do it against the Experts. In the 650 Expert bash, it was Bill Landsborough on the Selby BSA coming in with the wire to wire win. Landsborough is one of the few riders in the district that carries a variety of classifications for each type of racing. The District now has four ratings, Scrambles, Motocross, Hillclimb and Enduro. Bill is an Expert in Scrambles and Hill clirnb and has a gr eat desire to be an Expert all the wa y across the slate. No t to many o f th o se gu ys aro und though. The sport is a very specialized one and co ncen trat in g on one is a necessity. BAKERSFIELD, CAL., Feb. 20, 1972 - In spite (or perhaps, because) of a very slippery track, the racing at Sprockets Park was super action packed, with all the thrills and spills any spectator could ever desire . One of the wildest races of the day was the 500cc Expert Main, where Jon Sh affer lept into the leap t into th e lead w ith Spar k y Edmonston, Jack Martin, Mike Keen er , an d Harvey Bakker all in hot pursuit.
