Ri 0 5 held the lead, an ever-so-slight one, over Thorwaldson. Cannady was churning through the muck in third with Jim Wilson (CZ) holding fourth ahead of the proto-Kawasaki rider Brad Lackey. The parade continued throughout most of the race with DeSoto and Thor GP Go building a treme ndous gap in front of . Cannad y , who in tum was pulling away fro m Wilson and Lackey. Su d denl y , John went down hard on a downhill, sllowing Thor by. After a brief re-coop pe riod, DeSoto, bloodied and in pain, remounted and scurried after Thor who, meanwhile, lost his expansion chambe~. ~ second and R ich ard Ferrick (Bul) third. The Viewfinders elected to go with a Powder Puff class in this GP and Joyce Soyka (Ric) bashed her feminine foes over the five mile course. Trudy Stubbs bought a number and turned it into a second place while Terri Levine (Ric) copped third. A nasty powdery uphill which had flagmen busy all day Saturday pushing bikes and breaking up fights, was avoided Sunday when the course was changed and made a little longer. It was just in time, because: the Sidehacks came out in full force Sunday and a few flagmen said they didn't think the hacks could pull that hill. "No way!" The team of Jim Stevens and Bob Sarnmer did the trick on the altered course with their Bultaco rig and pegged first. The wasp-mounted combo of John Palfreyman and Marvin Tomlinson ::;: ~ w Z W ..J U >U garnered second. Joe Rose, Jesse Goldberg and Dana Wilson slipped to the point positions of the Old Timers race and finished in that order. Dave Yaryan (T ri) topped the final race of the two-day affair with a win in the Open Combined class . Mickey Alzola and A l Baker made it a three-way Triumph sweep in that big bore class. The track was more than well stacked with flagmen and the other essential items which make a race good. The weather, a clue that summer is coming, left many a pale body dripping with sunburn. That the Viewfinders had a lot of red faces only meant they were doing their j ob very well. A great weekend, fellows and wives.. (Results on page 32) . DeSoto regained the lead and won with Thor stuck in the boonies with a DNF . This put Cannady in second, Wilson third and Lackey fourth. Un the J unio r class side ,Jeff Wecker, a regular at the Dunes, had his CZ working flawlessly in t he 250 and 500 classes and he picked ul? a pair of wins. Mitc h Leo nard (C Z) an d Rand y Berkeley (Mai) tried to apply the pressu re in th e 250 b ut settled fo r second an d t hird spots.
