American Motorcycle Association Executive Director R ussel E. March h as an nounced AMA support .for the Executive Order issued by President Richard M. Nixon February 8 regard ing use of recreational vehicles on p ublic land. March 's an nounceme nt followed AMA Executive Committee deliberation in a meeting in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania February 10. . March stated, "On behalf of our me mbership o f nearly . 14 0 ,0 00 responsib le mo torcy cle enthusiasts, we wo u ld like to pledge fu ll cooperation to t he various cabinet memb ers named by the President in his Executive Order. We are great ly encouraged t hat the ad m i n i stration has recogn ized motorcycling an d other forms 'o f motoriz ed off-road recr eat io n as a legitimate pasttime enjoyed b y m or e than 5,0 00, 0 00 American families, and we fu lly agree th at p roper guidelines for use of t hese vehicles o n public land should be established on the federal level. " . Co m mentIng on American Motorcycle Association invo lvem ent , March continued, "With o ur experience in land use , environmental protection, noise control, and park planning, we should b e in the position to offer valuable assistance to t he agencies ch arged with the responsibility of establishing guidelines. We have publications on noise control and land use already available, and our legislative department has b een instrumental in dealing with similar problems on a local and state level. We propose to redouble these activities for the benefit of the Pres ide nt's new program with the in tention to help establish policies that will ensure that the use of off-road veh icles on public land will resu lt in optimum recreational use with a minimum of environmental co nflict."
