ORANGE, CAL., Mar. 4, 1972 - The
American Motocross Club Inc. held
their first race today at Saddleback
Park. The race was held o n a brand new
rna tocross track and everyone agreed
that both the A.M.C. and Saddleback's
new motocross track were a giant
2.
In 'each moto it was Morris Malone
(AJS) leading .the pack into the first
corner, but in both races Morris
couldn't keep it all together and
Runyard took the lead. Once in front
Mike pulled steadily away leaving Jon
Derhammer (CZ), Gaylon Mosier (Mai)
and Malone fighting it out for second.
In the second mota, while Runyard
was pulling away, Derhammer and
Malone traded their second place
positions three times with Derhammer
coming out on top and second overall
for the day.
The 500 Expert division was won by
Gary Harris (Hus) although it was no
easy task as Dave Smith (Mai) stormed
to an early lead and lo o ked like a sure
w inner. Harris steadily worked his way
towards the leader and
got by in the
' lat e lap s for his second win of the day
and first overall.
. Marty Tripes' little brother Mike won
his division today with a first and two
seconds. Mike not only lo o ked and rode
well, but played it smart, settling for a
second in the last moto, for first overall
for the day. Several spectators
commented that Mike rides just like
brother Many did two years ago .
It would be hard to mention each
winner in todav's races, but three riders
not only won their division but did it in
a clean sweep . Those riders were R.
Ruckman (Pen) , 125Jr.Div.I,J .Maeda
Bu l) , 125 Jr. Div. III and G . Griffing
Mai) in th e 500 Ju niors.

The AM.C. is somewhat different
than most of the other organizations
that race in southern California. It was
started by a group of "Fun Riders" who
didn't care to race with 400 Experts, All
A.M.C. races will be held on Saturdays.
"It is a non-profit organization with all
money being returned to members in
trophy prizes or club expenses". As an
example there was a free school today
with the "F1yin' Hawaiian" John
DeSoto doing the teaching. By the way,
John gets an "A" for his efforts, There
were also door prizes for the riders
donated by John DeSoto and K&N
Engineering.
With about 100 entries the racing
was over early with trophies given out
after the racing. There was a total of 50
trophies handed out in 12 divisions.
Winners even found t hat there was a
trophy girl to give out the gold.
