William J ohnso n (Yam ) b eat Joe Meyers by a m ere wheel in t h e second mo t o. Meyers started th e m o t a in fo u rth positio n b ut aced out Rich a rd Mille r a nd Dave Jackso n on th e ju mp in t he f ourt h go -around . He t he n proceeded to close in o n Johnso n. If he'd had a nother few feet, he wou ld have made it. First t ime A mateur rac er Jim Moffat (DKW) battled it ou t with the seasoned Amateurs in the 125 Amateur division. J im Johnson (Yam) dominated the lead w ith a go o d 20 yards o n Moffat until th e last inside turn. J o hnson's b ik e quit ; Moffat won. J ohnson got it st arted aga in in t im e for th e second spo t , w ith De nnis Axelsen (Han ) taking third. The first three laps of th e second wer e A xe lsen's . The 100's st arted the day out with three riders sweeping the competition abo ar d some very fast Yamahas, Ron Pomeroy Uim 's y ounger brother), Dave Cummings, and Ed K u y kend all ran one, two, three, in all three motos.
