i '" 922 MINUS 418 (l. N .... en ai ยท N il 11. JEFF WRIGHT: FASTEST , ~ w Z \ > W ..J () > o Jeff Wright. first overall out of 922. on a 175 Puch . By Alice Rhea FREMONT, CAL., Feb. 20, 1972 Four Aces really stuck their collective tongue in their collective cheek when they planned this year's Moose Run. Four Aces is a well-organized club and their runs are usually fun to ride and easy to write. Today 's 922 rid ers rode across some of the roughest country around and only 504 finished, all with their tongues hanging out. They were cheered on their way by such enlightening sings as th ese: "Moose Crossing", "Cat House - Y2 mile" t and the next sign, naturally , "free kittens" . Next came "end d ivided highway" then a steep downhill m arked , "trucks and T riump hs use low gears" . Then through a rocky canyon marked "watch for falling Ch eck ers". Jeff Wright (Puc) had his throttle wired open. He was firs t to the bomb, riding like the devil was after him , touching the ground for a little traction about every 20 feet, but mostly just flat-o ut flying. Yo ungJeff really put on an impressive ride, leading it all the way and wowing everybody. At the bomb Jeff charged up the hill a good 100 yards ahead of Jack Kneble (Suz) and Bill Friant (Puc). Com ing through the pits, Jeff had not only maintained his lead, but actually increased it. By the time Friant, second 175 and second overall , pulled into the finish line, Jeff had washed his face an d was sitting in a chair drinking Gatorade and talking to his fans. Howard Utsey (Hus) held down the first Heavyweight position, finishing third overall , followed by Big Bill Bogner (CZ) and Bruce Dunford (Hus). First 125 and sixth overall was Mitch Mayes on a Baja. Mitch was first 125, third in his class which includes 10 1cc to 175cc. It real ly is all very co nfusing, b ut I' m sure we 'll h ave it figured out by the ti me the season is ove r and we sw itch to a newsystem. Anyway, Mitch was going awfu lly fast on that little-bitty motorcycle. Steve Kirk (Mon) rode in seventh overall to capture first 250 positions , followed by George Walker (Kaw), Morns Norman (Hus) and Art Knapp (Hus). First Trailbike w:is Larry Roseler (Baja) . S id ehackers w ere out in force, with 17 starti ng and four finishing. Bruce Dunford shows what a hot day in the desert feels like. First Gir l: Desert Daisy Sharo n Rosenauer (Ric) . Fi rst Amateur was E.G . Segler, who das hed off before 1 saw what he was riding. First. Girl Novice : Cathy Anglin (Sac). A special word of praise is due her. It is great that she was able to finish this race when so many of the men were reall y worn o ut w h en they finished. Good for you, Cathy. First Si dehack was Palfreyman ... he had a partner, but nobody seems to know his name or what they were riding. Seventeen of these wild machines started the race, b ut only four crossed the finish line. 'Course, if you are riding a hack you get scored from where you broke down, even if you don't cross the finish line, so all 17 get a finisher's pin , righ t , Four Aces? A lso noted that Kook ie (H us) ma naged to finish firs t dog as usu al with J o h n McCowan h an ging on behind him . Bet t he re will be several disq ualifications. The Four Aces, foxy d evils that they are, had five checks in the firs t lo op and seven in the second loop. What a perfectly mean, nasty, rotten and evil thing for you guys to do to th o se poor course-cutters. According to everybody who finished it was really a fun ride. Even Sharon Rosenaue r (usc to be Wilson for you Steve Kirk (16 9) an d Howa rd Utsey smoke in t o th e pit
