(4 1 5 ) 3 6 9-4 11 2 Parts By James Brammer SANTA ROSA , CAL., Feb . 13 , 1972 R ocky Malyan of San Mateo led the Experts to ' the checkered n ag in the final race of the 19 72 indoor Amateur ch ampionsh ip series in Santa Rosa. Fo ur black-plate numb er riders were in th at eight-lap final event. Mov ing up from the b ack role for seco nd and third place finishers we re Larry Drew and Randy Miller. In the 125 Expert final, a local favo rite, th e agile Jim Coats from Petaluma , was matched against Debb ie Jackline from Sacrame nto. Coats, who is hell-bent for first, had his way. Deb's Ka wasaki was well tuned, sing ing beautifully, and she found an arc fo r tra ction around t he 1/10·mile oval. Coats led from start to fin ish, but well aware sh e was there as he k ept glancing b ack to ch eck his lea d throughout th e race . Top man o f th e Ossa ep idemic in th e Novice cla ss, Doug Hurley from Sa linas, led a group of South of Oakland riders to win th e 250 final. Als o from the same region, th e North Bay rid ers were sh u t o ut of the 250 Junior clas s by winner Manuel Datan follow ed b y Eddie Nunes and Ron Kole. High p oin t trophies for five cla sses we re award ed following th e rac es with Don Mci ver from Santa Rosa being the highest sco rer . Mciver earned with his points in the 200 Novice class getting advanced to J u nio r fo r the fin al race. Bill Bethell , the 100 class point win ner was p ro teste d on suspicio n of h avin g an oversized engine. Found lega l, h e received his trophy and the S10 for protest. FINAL STANDINGS Pts.
