U Morris Malone lookin' really good. led a star studded field under th e scoring stand for the win. Star studded! Lord I guess, 27 250 Experts racing for a $270 purse with $135 going to first overall . Billy Urban. Tom Rapp, Greg Smith. Morris Malone, Tim Hart, David Pessy, Bruce McDougal, Marty Trips, and on-and on .. ... Rapp wasn't the only one to get off in that first 250 m o to . Hart got off. then Tripes; both solo spills . Greg Smith took second behind Malone with Urban third. The second moto saw Rapp get all the pieces back in place for the win as Malone crashed hard behind the scorers stand, Urban took the second spot, Smith took third this time. The final round shaped up like so, Urban-525 points, Smith-469 , Rapp-422 , Malone 400, any of them could win it alL When starter Stu Peters dropped the flag, Rap p took h is Bultaco to the front, all those bad numb ers gone ---:"~~~r,~;-;;;;-~~ Greg Smith is being felt agai n. . ., Tom Rapp leads a heated 250cc Expert class. Dave Rodgers (900) . Billy Urban (1) and Morr is Malone are with in striking distance. though. and forgotten as he increased his lead every lap to the win . Malone o n his Ajay, Smith on his Mai co, and Urban on his CZ fought for each inch they could get. Malone seemed to tire and Greg got by fo r sec ond, Urban to ok third overall to cap a real dog fight. That rap id young man from San Diego,jim Beauchamp. riding th at rapid H-D prepared by jack Krizman of Van Nuys, led a H-D 1-2 sweep of the 125 Experts. Beauchamp put to first and a second together for first overall as Terry Clark on another Kri zman H-D got two seconds and a third for second overall . Bruce McDougal go t up for third. Hart worked his y o u know what off today, trying to ride two classes. He had to put the 250 Maico o n the trailer, said it wouldn't handle after the crash. Tim won the first 500 moto after john DeSoto los t th e counter shaft sprocket on his Suzuki. john m ust have been a little upt igh t as h e loaded up and split. Hart won the second with Greg Smith, who was also riding two cla sses. in for second and Rich T horwaldson taking thi rd. j u st like the first m o to . The th ird rou nd saw Hart in firs t , Rich second and Greg in th ird , all the way u ntil the last 50 yards. A rider wh o was abo u t to be lapped tried to dice with Hart and b locked h im; T horwaldson got by five yards fro m th e flag to get first , Hart second and Smith third. Of course , Rich was happy to get the wi n. It gave h im second ove rall, Har t was, or at least acted as if, he was really ticked off even t h o ugh h e still got first overall. But Greg Smith lost second place o veral l b ecause of an unthinking backmarker.
