P78 MOTOCROSS I LUCAS OIL AMA PRO MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 12 / SEPTEMBER 11, 2021 PRAIRIE CITY SVRA / RANCHO CORDOVA, CALIFORNIA sixth and seventh in front of Law- rence, the points leader. "After the first moto I was pissed and not happy at all," admitted Lawrence. "Going into the second one the mood was, go and do my job. I did a lot of work and I felt I deserved what I had done so far. I went out and was like, go out there and do your job." The fast-starting Cooper, once again, started up near the front, behind only the fast factory newcomer Varize. Lawrence was again outside the top five, but he also knew that a fifth-place finish would be enough to clinch the title. When he suffered another early spill, a collective groan went I could and put on a charge. I made sure I didn't override the track, because the track was pretty rough. I had to make sure I didn't overdo the track and make any other stupid mistakes." Cooper would win comfort- ably over Rockstar Husqvarna's RJ Hampshire and Hunter Lawrence, Jett's older brother and teammate. Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki's Jo Shimoda was fourth ahead of Red Bull KTM's fast rookie Max Vohland. A couple of other rookies, Star Racing's Levi Kitchen and Josh Varize, who was riding as a fill-in for Rockstar Husqvarna, were costing him a dozen spots and knocking his visor off. And then he crashed again on the sec- ond lap by running into another downed rider, falling completely out of the points to 23rd position. Had the race ended then and there, Cooper would have won the title by two points! Fortunately for Lawrence and the Honda factory team, the kid was able to settle down and work his way back up through the pack to eighth by the moto's end. "My mindset was when I crashed was, I am really sucking today on dirt bikes," said Law- rence afterwards. "I knew, and I just had to get up as quickly as Cooper Webb came on strong late in the 450MX Championship. He made another podium and finished out the season fourth in the championship.
