P74 MOTOCROSS I LUCAS OIL AMA PRO MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 12 / SEPTEMBER 11, 2021 PRAIRIE CITY SVRA / RANCHO CORDOVA, CALIFORNIA Craig. Scoring a career-best sixth was Delaware's Coty Schock of the FXR Chaparral Honda team. The second 450 moto had a chaotic opening lap. First, Roc- zen and Schock got together in the first turn, which caused the privateer Schock to bounce over into Ferrandis, causing both to go down. Their bikes tangled to the point where of- ficials and team personnel had to help pull them apart. While all of this was going on Webb and Craig enjoyed the early lead, but before even one- half lap was complete, Roczen rode off the track and straight into the signaling area with a foot injury from the collision with Schock. Just like that, Roczen's season was over, though fortu- DEPLETED Injuries and illness decimated the Hangtown fields, especially in the 450 class. Among those out of action (some for a while) were Adam Cianciarulo, Aaron Plessinger, Justin Barcia, Chase Sexton, Marvin Musquin and all three Rockstar Husqvarna 450 riders Jason Anderson, Dean Wilson and defending series champion Zach Osborne. Joey Savatgy was also out, temporarily re- placed by privateer Kevin Moranz, who ended up finishing 14th overall. HONORABLE MENTIONS The Twisted Tea Suzuki 450 combo of Brad Hartranft and Max Anstie collectively gave their team it's best day of the series. Hartranft finished a career-best fifth overall and the British import Anstie placed sixth. Also hav- ing a career-best day was California privateer Ryan Surratt, who went 8-8 for seventh overall in the 450 class on his AllSouth Husqvarna. HARDWARE TIME After the completion of the motos a brief awards ceremony was held right on the podium. Jett Lawrence and Team Honda were presented the Gary Jones Cup for the 250 Pro Mo- tocross Championship by Gary Jones himself, while "Bad" Brad Lackey was on hand to present the Edison Dye Cup for the 450 Championship to Dylan Ferrandis and the Star Rac- ing Yamaha team. Their respective mechanics, Christien Ducharme and Alex Campbell, were named Mechan- ics of the Year, and Max Vohland won the Marty Smith Rookie of the Year award. The Transport Driver of the Year was Dunlop's Todd Wilson. SINGLE DIGITS? With their new AMA Pro Motocross Championships, both #14 Dylan Ferrandis and #18 Jett Lawrence can choose a career single-digit number, if it's available. Right now, there is no #5 nor #8 being used, and #4 could very well be available if Blake Baggett decides to officially announce his retirement—he has not raced this sea- son and is said to be contemplating retirement. But so far both Ferrandis and Lawrence have said they like their current numbers, so both may pass on this option. Briefly... Eli Tomac (left) and his long-time tuner Brian Kranz celebrated their final race, which happened to be a second-moto win, together. Tomac is moving on to Star Yamaha and Kranz is staying put.
