LOOKING BACK
Team USA—consisting of Danny LaPorte, Donnie Hansen, Johnny
O'Mara and Chuck Sun—celebrate victory after topping the Trophee
des Nations in Belgium. It was the first time an American team won
the event... Round 24 of the AMA Grand National Championship was
dominated by Jay Springsteen, who led all but one of the 25 laps
around the track at the New York State Fairgrounds… Bruce Penhall
outrode 15 other speedway stars for the World Individual Speedway
Championship in London, England.
Two pictures from the first U.S. GP of Motocross were photographed in full
color for the cover. The upper photo show Brad Lackey—who finished fourth
overall on a CZ—grabbing the holeshot in moto two, while the lower photo
at the bottom has event winner Sylvain Geboers... Husqvarna-rider Ron
Bohn won the Jack Pine Enduro for his second consecutive time in two
years... Bill Bogner topped the Cactus Cats Hare Scrambles in Adelanto,
California, aboard a 500cc CZ; Tom Brooks finished in second on a 125.

moving him into second place on the all-time wins list, just one behind
the record holder Kenny Roberts, who had 29 at the time.
