While so me of the 146 en tries were hard charging professionals se eking m ore experience for the Frid ay night Cow Palace scene, many wer e from distant points as two Novice riders from Reno , Nevada, h avin g a go at th e slick surface racing for adventure. O ne o f the Reno riders Bill Lambert, made th e 200 Novice fi nal an d at o ne time was second to winner Charl ie Brown. Hopefully , riders from those dista nt points get th e word in time that the February 20 race is off. A nother group has taken their optio n for th e fairgrounds on that date. R on Bolling a nd Pat Ri chter of Honda of Arcata's R acing T eam , riding a bi g H us ky, were the numb er o ne trophy w inners . T hey finished the three hour course wit h a total o f 2 9 h a rd laps. Each class of riders st a rt ed off the line separately . T he b ig 25 I-Open class left a mi nu t e ahead of the 12 6-25 0 cc class. A minute later came th e 0-1 25 cc group. Jay S teadley and Lonnie Foster were the early leaders and m anaged to stay for six go -arounds. Br ian Lee and Richar d Pawlus p ush ed their Ma ico into the lead for two la ps. They turned the t op spot o ver t o Bolling and Ri chter who kep t it for three laps.
