Formula 750, a class of racing for which AMA road racing machines qualify, was devised jointly by the AMA and England's Auto Cycle Union, and was recognized recently by the Federation .I nternationale Motocycliste, the world governing body of mo torcycling. II, 1972 When you mention USMRC and the EI Toro motocross course, the names of Bruce ~IcDougal, Morris Malone, Chuck Bower; and David Boydstun nearly always pop into m indc-They were there Friday night but so were Bruce Baron, Mike Cram, a nd Glen Lund. McDougal did win overall honors in the 125 and 250 classes, but the Orange Expert ran into mechanical problems in the 500 field and yielded the top spot to Cram and his Maico, Cram rode well all night and won the 111"st two motos and ran second to Lund (Hus) in the finale. Riverside's Scott Smith was in the field fo r the fi rst 500 mo to , but he had troubles and parked the bike for the night. It was a hard earned win for Cram as his victories were by only a few feet and the third was a great duel with Lund, who took over from Mike on lap three to record a 10-yard victory. McDougal won the first 125 moto by 20 yards over Rueben Benites after the improving Davey Carlson led the first four circuits and Bower took the second heat by 10 yards from McDougal. The third was a thriller and saw the lead change hands three times between Baron and Bower, with Baron coming on at the checker to nip Chuck by a foot. All were Pento n mounted except Carlson, who rode a Yamaha. In th e first 250 Ex/Int, go, McDougal was off the line first on his Yamaha but he re linquis he d the lead on la p three to the flying Dave Boydstun, who went on to a 20-yard win as the fir st seven finis hers were tig htly bunched. Malone got a great jump in the seco nd moto and led all the way on his AJS to hold off a closing McDo ugal an d win by 10 feet. After several prema t u re starts, t he final heat was a dead e ngine start and McDougal got off first and beat Boydstun by several yards . Zack Lindberg was the winner in last week's 125 Junior (Divisio n two) class and he repeated again tonight with three wins and Steve Eredia (Ya m ) edged Paul Nyland (Pen) in Division one. Steve won the first and third races and Nyland took the second. Richard Duncan (Mai) continued his great riding and duplicated his overall win of last week as he won all three heats hand ily in Division one of the 250 Junior class and Bob Perlof ca ptured Division two on his CZ by winning heats o ne a nd two. Brad Sa lata (Hus) made good his p ro mise to beat Joe Dyer and he did it with a photo-finish win in the third 500 J unio r moto a nd it enabled Brad to take overall h o n or s. Monte Mahan, who was leading on po ints goi ng into th e final, had m ec hanical problems wi th hi s CZ a nd he had to settle for second.
