That close fin ish made a little tidbit of helpfulness , o n the part of Jim Beauchamp's H·D crew, very significant. As things turned out, maybe they should have. The second moto had Tom Rapp leading Jeff and J im under the flag as it was Bowers tu m to do a n umber and have to scramb le for fourth. It was after this m o to that a b irthda y" party was h eld in the p its . A paper p late, h ol d ing fou r chocolate do ughnuts with 17 wooden matches b lazing, was - ' N Here's a couple of ones : Jeff Wright (l Fl and Tom Rapp presen ted to a totally surprised, and now I7·year·old Jim, Beauch amp. It was Gr eg Smith on h is Maico, who jumped out front , wi th Mosier second, and Urban third. They went six laps with Greg holding off Mosier and Mosier holding off Urban, but Greg t ired and slowed. Billy Urban , Jeff Wright, and Rich Thorwaldson, (Rich, winner of the 500 Expert class) enjoyed a fine pay day. Stu Peters paid out $1 10 to each of them from a really good $630 purse. Based on a 100% p urse fro m the Expert entry fees, one can see that 63 Experts were on hand, wit h only 37 m ore needed, those $1000 p urses are just around the co rn er.
