American Motorcycle Association Director of Professional C> Racing, has announced the e:ti establishment of two motocross rider .c point funds, patterned after the .f successfu l Championship rider fund that VJ has paid as m uch as $28,000 annually to ;;: AMA Chmapionship racers. ~ Similar to the popular Championship w point fu nd, the motocross point funds d will be b uil t o n fees drawn fro m entries > and post entries at international U motocross events. There will be two separate funds paying bonus money to the top ten American riders in the summer In ter-M IA 250cc motocross series. and the top ten American riders in the fa ll Trans-AMA 500cc motocross series. Rased on a graduating sca le, the top rider will receive the lion's share of the fun d wh ich may amo unt to as much as S IO ,OOO from a 12-event series. $6 .00 fro m each entry and $25.00 from each post entry wi ll be pai d into the fund. Boyce's development of th e two new programs resulted from d irection from th e 1971 AMA Competi tio n Co ngress, an d is based d irectl y on the successful Champio nship program that pays la rge bonuses t o professional road ra cers and dirt track riders . ~ ISDT SITE PROBLEM Drawing upon its great natura l r eso u rce , the AMA has sent a letter to each of its 2000 chartered clubs, asking for their cooperation and inviting them to make a proposal for local promotion of the ISDT for 1973 . To date sites 'in Ohio, Kentucky, Virginia, Texas, Oklahoma, Michigan, Massachusetts. Oregon, and Nevada are under consideration. The staff at the national office will be required to weigh the advantages and disadvantages in each proposed area, and the sole basis for a final decision will be the intention of choosing the best possible loc ale. A lo cation for the 1973 event will be announced early in 19 72 as the FI:\1 is requiring the AMA to organize a "test trial" during the coming year. This preliminary eve nt w ill be observed by FIM officials and will be at the location of the 1973 IS DT , as st ipulated by the FIM. Trials Team's Treking Plans Set SAN JUAN CAP ISTRANO, CAL., Jan. ' 25, 19 72 - Plans t o send Southern California T rials riders Mark Egger a nd Rich Bledsoe to the Spanish Rou nd of the World Trials Champio ns hips were formulated and passed th is evening in a meeting of participating trials riders. The teenage competitors, Mark an d other self-paying riders, are sc heduled to leave for Paris , Fra nce, Feb. 18 and be transported by train to Tarrasa, Spain, for the March 5 m eeti n g of the Spanish Round. T he adult members of the team fly d irectly to Barcelona, Spain and will join the teens there . Fred Belair was un an im ously voted to travel with the team to act as manager , chaperon, interpreter and " b oss man " since he is a native of Spain. Questions as to having Belair travel to Europe w ith his expenses paid ou t of the funds raised at last December's El Trials de Espana were discussed, mainly pointing out th at , instead, a third fully sponsored rid er sho uld go . But, w he n it was reported that the th ird rid er had already stated he thought Belair should go, the vote came u na n imo usly . In dependent entries , who will compete u nder the banner of the Western United States Trials Team title , include Bill Brokaw a nd G lenn Neigenfiend of Colorado, and Jeff Koskie , George Smith III and Martin Belair of Southern California. Both Walker and Nicholson we re sent ove r to Spain las t year when Belair and AMA RADIO ESTABLISHED Russ March, Executive Director of the American Motorcycle Association, has announced the establishment of an A~IA Radio Network that will broadcast 12 to 15 of 1972's best championship events to major cities throughout the United States. The network, developed in cooperation with the Bonneville Radio Network with home offices in Salt Lake City, Utah, results primarily from overwhelmingly positive responses to the broadcasts of Daytona a nd Talladega during the 19 7 1 season. March comments, "We knew we needed more natio nal broadcasts of AMA championship events when the letters began to co me in on Day tona and Talladega. This year. with Goodson as chairman, the SCTA continued the program and made it even mo re successful. After that, the American Trials Assn ., ex pects to take ove r the endeavor as an annual event. Aiding this year's team is donations fro m several fir ms . Lynn Wineland has designed a n emblem; Webco will produce them as well as supp lying jackets and bags. Bell Helmets will provid e caps, more jackets a nd bags.
