Over a field that included at least seve n bl ac k p late en tries, Rocky Ma lya n from San Mateo won the 250 Expert Main in the th ird meeting of a seve n-race meet series. Black plate n um ber 6, Larry Dr ew ca me ac ross second w ith the remain ing b lack p la ters lined up behind har d -eh ar gin g Carl Blackledre in third in th e eigh t-la p feature race. Blackedre pulled off an exci ti ng r ace and drew loud protests from spectators before officials rejected his win in the 12 5 Expert final. He had won qualifying h eats in. b oth 125 and 250 classes. He lost the lead of the 125 final on the first lap but kept ch argi ng t o re gain it and o n the seventh lap alleged ly knocked down th e leader in th e pro cess. Boos from spect ators expressed their protest as he crossed the fi nish line first. Officials declared George Karama ras the winner. Karamaras had been running a quarter-lap behind the dice fo r firs t. Other 250 Expert heat winners were J erry Kol c a nd R ock y Malyan and Xick Nazzisis won th e six -lap semi-fin al. At the finish o f th e 250 feature, Blackledre acc ep te d h is tr ophy fo r third bu t didn't lin e up in the w inner's c ircl e. Luther Ho lbro ok p assed Mark Hendrickson to win the 100 Novice fin al. In th e 100 Junior fin al, Wayne Lawrence fro m Salinas moved into first on th e second lap by passing Leo Perry and th en we n t on to win by a half-la p lead over second place fin isher Karl Cleet on.
