Lackey is, o f course, on the International level, 50 it appears that Bass will soon be into th e number one spot on the local leve l. Jerry Johnson ca m e all the way up from Sa n Luis Obsipo, Calif. to carry aw ay the 250 Expert brass. He d idn't h ave an easy da y o f it , h owever, and h ad to come up with two pressure wins , in th e se cond and third motes, after crashing w hile leading the first race . T h e 25 0 A mateur class w as the closest fought class of the day. Laguna Se ca regu lars Pa t Legge, Jim T urner, Joh n Schaffer a nd Steve Ma rsh , made th e trip up t o the Sa nd Pit to resume th eir w ee kly battle. Legge wo n the firs t tw o m o tos, th en crashed u nexpectedly wh ile lead in g th e fin al e. The fall allowed Jim Tu rner to slip in for th e win after chasing Legge in the firs t tWD. Sch affer and Ma rs h we re undec ided th rough most of the day as to w ho wa s going to pick up the third spot. Wh en it was o ve r, Sc haffer bested Marsh's 3-4-3 by the n a rr o west of margins w ith a 4-3-2. Rob Willis is another ra pidly improving local, having n o t icea b ly picked up t he pace alter rece ntl y acq uiring his n ew Hu sk y, and put together a strong 1-2-2 score. Bu t, like J ohn son and Legge, Willis had h is t roub les while leading the ra ce, unloading heavily only a few feet fro m the fi n ish of t he th ird m o t o . Rob managed to push across fo r second and enough points t o secure the overall win. T he w in ne r (no surprise) was Greg Hab b y of Neva da City who rode very sim ply smooth, fast, and consistent. T he secon d p la ce finisher was John " Legs" Munso n. Munso n showed his st uff in the heat ra ce by doing a 36 0 degrees whcelie, putting Homer Hy b arger an d J a ck Pine into the wa ll. T h is did not sway th e Junio r , however and in th e Main he actually looked li k e the fast rider that h e is. He is a good examp le of the difference t w ix a J unior and an Expert; speed w it h litt le control. With ou t a doubt, th e best and most exciting eve nt of the evening was the 250 Expert Mai n. L o cal , a nd ve ry m uch li kab le, Windy Foreman , after a la y o ff of several mon ths, won the first heat an d therefore the pole position . Tom Baca cap tured a re latively eas y win o n h is new Bultaco 125 Pursang in the 125 Novice Main. lIe rod e fairly smooth, as one does wit h a new machine , but his Bultaco ponies kept him in front of Mr. Nic G uy, Andy Larne r eaux, second . T he 125 J uniDr event evinced some surprises . Monty Martin , w ho has been a consistent Novice winner all season, won h is firs t J unior race rather handily. Rich :>lacl\1urray, the us ual winner of this even t, p ressured hard throughout th e race by clean ly wedging his wheel against Martin's b ike. It is sincere ly hoped that this outstanding rider , a n d other riders like him, is n o t disheartened by th e decisi on. His, a nd their, p rese nc e is appreciated. T h e Re n o Motorsports, as usual, did a fine job of keeping the events running sm o othly and in keeping the track in the best condition they 'co u ld .
