in putting it all together. "The Superpole race was just too short for me to come through the field and, unfortunately, I couldn't improve my starting position for the main event. In the afternoon's long race though, we had a good setup, and I was able to move forward a little bit, which was good." After eight rounds Toprak has 370 points, Rea 363, Redding 298, Locatelli 186 and Lowes 186. WorldSSP One seasoned winner, one all new one, as Magny Cours' WorldSSP races proved scary and enthralling, once again. One early crash and one start line clash saw a delayed start to the first WorldSSP race, with a first-time pole rider in the shape of Luca Bernardi (CM Racing Yamaha) leading them away. Michel Fabrizio GAP Moto- zoo Kawasaki) had been tagged around the fast turn two and had a big rolling crash, destroying his bike and bashing the rider up enough to not race on Sunday. Then Andy Verdoia and Valentin Debise clashed on the start line for the rerun. With the delays, the race itself was held over only 12 laps, not the planned 19. It was won by runaway championship leader Dominique Aegerter (Ten Kate Racing Yamaha) but only by 0.869 seconds, from champion- ship chaser Steven Odendaal (Evan Bros Bardahl Yamaha) and local hero Jules Cluzel (GMT94). Teenage hotshot Manuel Gonzalez (Yamaha ParkinGo) was fourth, just 1.356 seconds from the winner. Bernardi placed fifth, and the top-10 riders finished within seven seconds of each other. In race two, again held in warm and dry conditions, not quite one lap had elapsed before Bernardi took the lead from Aegerter into the final chicane, then crashed right in the middle of it. With nowhere to go Aegerter and Cluzel all collided in a scary fashion. Cluzel suffered a head trauma but no fracture, while Ber- nardi has a fracture of his T12 verte- brae, but is able to move his limbs, according to his team statement. The race got back underway, and Gonzales won the long duel with Aegerter for his first WorldSSP victory, as Can Oncu (Kawasaki Puccetti Racing) se- cured his first WorldSSP podium finish. A strong day for the teen- agers, the winner being 19 and the third-placed rider 18. Aegerter leads Odendaal (who was sixth in race two) by 62 points before he heads off to miss the next Barcelona round because of a previous MotoE contract commitment. Strange days indeed.
