ROUND 11 / SEPTEMBER 4, 2021 FOX RACEWAY / PALA, CALIFORNIA P66 MOTOCROSS I LUCAS OIL AMA PRO MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIP growing confidence afterwards. The Californian had been out with a should injury but returned at Ironman to finish fourth overall. He looked even better this week- end. "The track was brutal, the weather was brutal, but I abso- lutely loved it." Rockstar Energy Husqvarna's RJ Hampshire came up from a so-so start to finish third, just ahead of Pro Circuit Kawasaki's Jo Shimoda and Star Racing Yamaha's Justin Cooper, who could not recover quickly enough from a mediocre start to go with Lawrence to the front. Hunter Lawrence, Jett's older brother, was next, followed by the rookie Max Vohland. "Moto one was really good," 250MX While the 450cc class saw a championship awarded at Fox Raceway, the 250cc class would be slightly anticlimactic, as Jett Lawrence simply went faster, and for longer, than everyone else. He started fourth in the first moto and moved up quickly, taking advantage of a crash by early leader Michael Mosiman of the TLD/Red Bull GasGas team. Mosiman went all the way back to seventh, but then came roar- ing back to still grab second in the moto. "I've been working a lot and I believe I can win—I believe I should be up there and will be up there more," said Mosiman of his a wild scene around the podium, enjoyed a mostly subdued cel- ebration afterwards, explaining that he had been sick after the Ironman race and felt that he had pushed himself to the limit at Fox Raceway. "I dedicate my life to being the best in my sport and I work hard every day to be that," he said as he sat in a chair holding his number-one plate tightly, his rid- ing coach and trainer David Vuil- lemin nearby, as well as his wife, Nastasie. "I have done that work for many, many years, but this year I think I was just at the top of my game—physically, mentally and also the bike itself. I do the work, I do everything I can to be better, and it's finally paying off." Justin Cooper said he gave it his all at Pala 2 but it wasn't enough to keep pace with the new championship leader, Lawrence.
