Cipala Captures MotoClimb Crown
T
he South Hills Showdown on
Sunday, August 29, was the
final round of the 2021 IRC Moto-
Climb Super Series, taking place
at the world-famous Billings Motor-
cycle Club (BMC) in Montana.
This 350-foot bentonite hill was
very steep, technical, and had
plenty of traction thanks to the
BMC watering it for weeks and a
storm rolling through days before.
Logan Cipala of Ellsworth, Wis-
consin, came into the round with a
sizable points lead and ended up
winning the event overall to clinch
his second consecutive IRC MSS
Championship. He won the 450cc
main on his GasGas MC450, and
placed fourth in the Open class on
his Buell HCR1190.
Tyler Cardwell of Billings, Mon-
tana, finished second overall on
the day with a 9-1 result, winning
the Open class on his KTM 1190.
Mead of Concord, California, fin-
ished third overall with a 5-3 result.
Motocrosser Josh Hill raced
all weekend in Billings, winning
the 450cc qualifier and finishing
fourth overall with a 4-5 result
during Sunday's race.
The BMC also hosted the Night-
mare club race the day before,
where Hill won both the Pro 700
and Open classes on his Yamaha
YZ450F and new YZ850F Open
bike. Hill says he is enjoying Moto-
Climb racing and is getting more
and more familiar with the extended
swingarm setups and Yamaha MT-
09 engine in a dirt-bike frame, and
he plans to race more next year.
Other notable athletes on both
class podiums were Noah Shaver,
Mason Miller and Austin Teyler,
who finished second overall in the
season points standings.
Logan Mead was third in the
championship.
