moto, as a spirited battle between
the three developed just after they
collectively dispatched Rocky
Mountain ATV/MC-WPS/KTM's
Joey Savatgy from the early lead.
For nearly half the moto, Ferrandis
led Roczen and Tomac, but then
Roczen seemed to lose the bit and
Tomac overtook him for second.
He gave chase to Ferrandis until
the latter stages but could not
close the gap of a little more than
four seconds. Roczen was 10
seconds back in third, followed by
Webb—who's fourth-place finish
was his best of the season—and
Honda's Chase Sexton.
"It was just gnarly physically, so
to get that first moto win was awe-
some," admitted Ferrandis, who
before the race had been a little
critical of the sawdust added to
the track but seemed to thrive in it
once the race started.
Ferrandis grabbed the second-
moto holeshot and appeared ready
to set sail, but an inspired Webb,
who mentioned making some
changes to his KTM's chassis,
suddenly fired past the points
leader and to the front for the first
time this summer. That began a
short battle that would last several
laps and culminate with Ferrandis
tapping Webb in the corner before
the finish line, moving the two-
time AMA Supercross champ out
of the way. Ferrandis then waved
back at him over the next jump,
gesturing that he didn't mean for
the contact to happen, slight as it
was. But then almost immediately
Tomac came through as well, and
he passed Ferrandis for the lead
