setup in the moto. A 3-4 netted Sexton fourth on the day. Webb had his starts down at Budds Creek. The KTM rider holeshot the first moto and started off second in the second moto but, as has been the case all season, Webb just didn't quite have the speed to challenge for a podium. The Supercross champ did, howev- er, show signs of improvement outdoors, going 5-6 on the day for fifth overall, a season best for him. Joey Savatgy (6-7), Marvin Musquin (10-5), Dean Wilson (8- 9), Coty Schock (7-11) and Max Anstie (9-10) rounded out the top 10 overall. For Coty Schock, on the FXR Chaparral Honda, ninth overall was a career best for the young rider from Delaware. As mentioned, 39 points still separate championship leader Ferrandis from runner-up Roc- zen, while Tomac lost ground in third. Tomac is now 32 points behind Roczen but is 13 points clear of fourth-place Sexton. Both Musquin and Webb over- took Justin Barcia (who did not ride due to injury) in the champi- onship and are now tied for fifth. 250MX It was a little bit of déjà vu for 250MX points leader Justin Cooper who, like at Unadilla, won the first moto handedly (de- spite a fall) but struggled in the second moto, finishing fourth. He revealed after the race he was dealing with an illness and wasn't 100 percent. He ulti- mately went 1-4 (like he did at Unadilla) for third overall. Jett Lawrence, who is clos- est to the Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha rider, Cooper, ROUND 9 / AUGUST 21, 2021 BUDDS CREEK MX PARK / MECHANICSVILLE, MARYLAND P72 said. "The track being a little bit shorter, we were all cramped up into a little spot. I struggled with that in the first moto, big-time. My lead got cut down pretty good." BUDDS CREEK NOTES: Two women racers tried to qualify for the feature races in both classes. Jordan Davis gave it a shot in the 250cc class and Marissa Markelon in the 450cc class but neither got in... Levi Kitchen (250MX) who re- cently made his Pro debut, suffered four crashes at Budds Creek, three in the first moto and one in the sec- ond... GasGas riders Justin Barcia (elbow, ribs), Michael Mosiman (undisclosed) and Pierce Brown did not race due to injuries. Brown suffered a concussion and a broken collarbone at Unadilla the week before... Husqvarna's Stilez Rob- ertson also sat out Budds Creek, but no reason was given from the team... After a long string of injuries, Manluk/Rock River Yamaha/Merge Racing Yamaha's Alex Martin an- nounced that he's going to sit out the rest of the championship starting with Budds Creek. Briefly... in the Championship, couldn't capitalize. At least not by much. The Honda rider had his chance for the overall win during the day but went 2-2 instead for second overall, gaining just one point on Cooper. He's now three points back. Like Cooper, Lawrence said after the race that all was not well coming into the Budds Creek race but would not explain why. "It was just a rough week, that's all I could really say," he said Jeremy Martin came alive in the second 250MX moto and when he's on nobody can seem to match his speed. A 3-1 gave him his third win of the season. MOTOCROSS I LUCAS OIL AMA PRO MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIP
