VOLUME 58 ISSUE 33 AUGUST 17, 2021 P59 right off the start, finished out the day fifth over- all. "I hit the deck pretty hard," Sexton said. "I couldn't catch my breath; I had the wind knocked out of me. I just tried to salvage what I could." Ferrandis, who seemed just off his usual pace at Unadilla, finished third while under pressure by Musquin. Usually, it's Ferrandis who is doing the pressuring at the end of motos, so this was a bit of a turnaround for Ferrandis. Still, it was an okay day for the Yamaha rider who nabbed second overall but saw Roczen dig into his points lead by eight points. Ferrandis still has a comfortable 39-point lead over Roczen in the championship. So, if this was one of Ferrandis' "bad" days, he came out of it okay. "I came here to win, but second overall was the best I could do today," Ferrandis said. "The track was just wild! It was so technical and so hard to ride and go fast. We didn't have the pace, and Ken was way too strong. I saw after the first MYOWNRACE me to make sure everything was fine, and I lost connec on with him. In the second moto, I put myself in a good posi- on, but I was never capable of pu ng an a ack on Dylan for third. Trying to pass the lappers was pre y tough with all the ruts and I couldn't do much more." 45 PIERCE BROWN 36TH (29-DNF) 250MX Just how bad was it for the TLD/GasGas Team? With Barcia and Mosiman already sidelined, Pierce Brown's 29-DNF was the team's best result of the day. "I fell on the first lap and then a couple laps later, I kind of had a big one, and it shook me up a li le bit, but I got back up and finished the moto in 29th," said Brown. "For moto two, I was ready to come out swinging, but it was a tough one as well. I came together with some guys off the start and went down. I was already buried, so I was trying to be calm and make my way through the pack and a couple laps in, I hit a really bad kicker in one of the jumps in the back part of the track and went over the bars. I tried to save it, but I just couldn't pull it through. It was a big one. I hit my head pre y hard and my le shoulder, so that put me out for the day." (Left) Chase Sexton crashed hard at the start of the first 450MX moto, thinking momentarily that he had broken some ribs. But he came back from last to go 11-2 on the day for fifth overall.
