VOLUME 58 ISSUE 31 AUGUST 3, 2021 P57 H onda unveiled its all-new CRF250R for 2022. As ex- pected, the CRF250R got a complete overhaul much like its bigger brother, the CRF450R, got last year. The 250 shares the same frame as the 450 and took on many of its own updates to the engine and suspension. Probably the biggest news is an eight-pound reduction in overall weight. That is significant! Claimed curb weight is now 229 pounds. Honda says the weight savings comes from numerous individual components, rather than one or two main areas. As for the engine, Honda focused on giving the 250 more low-rpm torque without sacrificing any top-end power, while also improving shifting. The shift drum has been re-engineered, and the clutch gets an extra friction plate (nine friction plates instead of eight). And something surprisingly new, the 250 now comes fitted with Pirelli tires, MX32 Mid Soft rubber to be specific. MSRP is $8099 and availability is mid-August. CN The 2022 Honda CRF250R weighs in at eight pounds less than its predecessor. Find in-depth info on the 2022 Honda CRF250R in our First Look web feature.
