2:14.287 that clinched the moto
win for him.
"Justin rode flawless," said
Hampshire after failing to find a
way around the red-plate Yamaha
of Cooper. "I never really found
a spot that I could capitalize. We
were just kind of going back and
forth the whole moto, and I could
see J-Mart back there also."
"Washougal was kicking my
butt out there in moto one," said
Martin on the podium. "I need to
get my head together and see if I
can get a better start and ham-
mer down."
Cooper got an even better
start the second time out with the
holeshot. Right next to him was
pursuing Cooper, Martin shot to
the inside before the finish line
whoops, effectively cutting off
Cooper's line with a perfect block
pass. He took the lead from there
and was never really challenged
again. Cooper was fine in second
as it was enough for the overall
win, but then came his big crash
on Horsepower Hill with two laps
to go, a big swapper in the trees
when he hit a square edge that
he didn't see because of the
shadows.
"I was trying to make a push
to Jeremy, and I just didn't have
it," said Cooper afterwards. "I
don't know, I got a weird kick. I
didn't see it. It was kind of in the
the surprising Dilan Schwartz
of the Bar X/Chaparral/Ecstar
Suzuki team. And finally having a
good start was Jett Lawrence in
fourth, but then Martin pushed
him wide, causing a mistake
where Lawrence missed a berm
and lost several spots.
Martin soon moved into sec-
ond, and then Hampshire came
up through to third. Forkner was
also up near the front this time,
along with Brown and Hunter
Lawrence. Martin took the fight
to Cooper, and the two made
contact at the bottom of Horse-
power Hill, though Cooper held
the front.
