"I was really pissed after my performance at the Michigan race,"
said Lafferty. "So I've really been
busting my butt trying to get back
up where I think I need to be. I
know where I think I should be and
all the hard work paid off today."
Nick Fahringer came on strong
in the final two tests of the day to
overtake Jesse Groemm for the
final podium position on his Radiant AirGroup Racing-backed
Husaberg. The Ohio rider has
now scored a podium in every
race but one this year.
"I never really felt comfortable
today," said Fahringer. "I just
wasn't feeling that fire until the
last two sections. I think I was trying too hard to be smooth at the
cost of any kind of aggression,
and there were a lot of guys going fast today, so I was just kind
of hovering back around fifth dur-
P97
ing the early stages.
"I knew I was behind Jesse
at the end and I stepped it up in
the final two tests and just barely
squeaked by."
Despite finishing behind Lafferty, he still enjoys a 21-point advantage over third-place Lafferty.
Groemm held on for fourth,
disappointed at missing the podium.
"I kept it upright all day except
for one incident and I think I had a
good day overall," said Groemm.
"However, I think I was a little too
conservative in that final test, I
was a little nervous, and I might
have given too much away."
Meanwhile, fifth went to South
Carolina KTM rider Grant Baylor,
brother of Stu Baylor, the 2012
National Enduro champ who is
still sitting out the action with a
broken hand.

Thad DuVall made his return to the National Enduro Series after sitting out the
last few rounds to concentrate on the GNCC series. The Shenandoah Honda
rider finished eighth. "I forgot how tight these things were," joked DuVall. "It
was good to get some seat time on the bike, I'm on a 250F now and I need
all the time I can get on it. I thought I was fast in all of the tests, but I wasn't
even top five. It was just one of those days, I gave it my all, and did the best
I could."
After scoring a podium finish at the previous round in Michigan, Obermeyer
Yamaha/Raines Riding University/Offroadviking's Brad Bakken scored a solid sixth in Pennsylvania, finishing 24 seconds behind Grant Baylor. "I came
into the race pretty confident after the last race, and I felt like I rode the first
test pretty well," said Bakken. "I struggled getting around lappers in the second test and that slowed me a bit. I also struggled in the fourth test, near the
end I overshot a turn and stalled my bike and it took a while to get it going
again. I was upset about that, so I pinned it in the fifth test and I came out of
that with a pretty good time. I think I lost it all in the rock garden in test six,
though. I tipped over and bent my bark buster and every time I would pull the
front brake, the lever would catch and stick on."
