REKLUSE AMA NATIONAL ENDURO SERIES

E
ven when he has an off
day, Charlie Mullins is at
the point where he can still
pull it all together and come out
on top in the National Enduro Series. The FMF/KTM rider couldn't
have started the 65-mile Foggy
Mountain National Enduro much
worse than he did, crashing three
times in the first 5.5-mile test,
not to mention over-shooting two
turns. Another crash in the final
test of the day when the pressure
was on might very well have cost
anyone else the race. But Mullins
kept his composure and brought
home his sixth win of the year,
boosting his lead in the Rekluse
AMA National Enduro Series to
36 points with just three rounds
remaining on the schedule.
Set in the lush farming country of south central Pennsylvania, the Foggy Mountain Enduro
was short and tough, with most
of the tests raging in the five- to
six-mile range and littered with
brick-sized rocks, which tended
to knock riders off their lines.
Mike Lafferty typically likes this
kind of terrain, and the eight-time
National Enduro champ put his
factory Husaberg at the top of
the leader board at the end of the
opening test of the day, posting
a time that was 16 seconds faster than fellow New Jersey rider
Jesse Groemm, and 29 seconds
faster than Mullins, who was all
the way down in sixth after his disastrous start.
