P32 IN THE WIND was like I think a lap and a half left, and I was just like, 'Geez.'" In the second moto, James had moved up to third at about the halfway point, and Malcolm was fourth and gaining because of a couple of mistakes James made that lap. Then James, for the second time, went down hard in the rollers. "I got beat by him both motos this weekend," James said. "That's the first time that's happened. I think he got me one moto at High Point. It's not cool [laughs]. It's not cool. And then to PHOTOGRAPHY BY SHAN MOORE DOWN BUT NOT OUT While still nursing broken ribs and recovering from a punctured lung, Russell Bobbitt toughed it out at the Foggy National Enduro on Sunday. J ust two weeks ago, four-time National Enduro Champion Russell Bobbitt was laid up in a hospital after having broken six ribs and collapsing a lung in a fall while practicing during the week. But that didn't stop him from at least trying to compete in the Foggy Mountain National Enduro in Pennsylvania on Sunday. Actually, he did more than just try - he finished 15th overall on his factory-backed Husaberg. For all of his effort and the discomfort that he endured, he came away with six championship points. "I was hoping to just ride around and get some points today," said Bobbitt after the run. "It wasn't super painful, but I couldn't sit down at all. I ended up just trying to be super smooth and short-shift and just get through everything as best I could." Since suffering the injury and missing one round, he's slipped from second in the championship to fourth. He should be up to his usual speed by the time the next National Enduro rolls around on July 28. I'm still a little bit quicker than him, but overall he's basically just as fast." The race, formerly a 12-hour event, was shortened to 10 hours this year so that the race could be finished in the daylight. Most teams didn't complain. Ten hours was plenty, especially in dry, summer conditions on the nine-mile course designed by the staff of Dirt Bike magazine. RMP Racing's Justin Jones was the king of the first lap and the first hour of the race. He got a big holeshot and then checked out. Behind him, Robby Bell held second on a Precision Concepts/Dirt Bike Magazine Kawasaki 450 until he crashed hard. Bell limped back to the pits far behind continued on page 34
