VOL. 50 ISSUE 25 JUNE 25, 2013 P27 THE NOMINEES upercross and motocross Tramontin Struck, S legend Ricky Carmichael headlines the nominees for the 2013 AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame ballot – a list that includes racers, designers, tuners and ambassadors of motorcycling. This year's list of nominees starts with Carmichael and he's joined by Ride for Kids' Mike and Dianne Traynor, K&N founder Norm McDonald, motorcycle rights activist Mark Buckner, Indian tuner and flat tracker Richard Gross, Indian Powerplus designer and engineer Charles Gustafson Sr., AMA Champion and Baja racer Danny Hamel, flat-track racer Tommy Hays, hillclimber Joseph Hemmis Sr., desert racer Jack Johnson, land speed racer Bob Leppan, AMA champion road racer Randy Renfrow, champion drag racer Joe Smith, Motor Maid Gloria and AMA Government Relations pioneer F. Potential AMA Motorcycle Hall of Famers are considered in eight categories, each focusing on a specific area: Ambassadors & Industry, Design & Engineering, Dirt Track, Leadership & Motorcycle Rights, Motocross & Supercross, OffRoad, Roadracing and Specialty Competition. Votes for the Hall of Fame class of 2013 will be cast by: all living Hall of Fame members; members of the AMA and AMHF Boards of Directors; and members of and advisors to the Category Committees. The current Speedway front stretch places an emphasis on enhancing the complete fan experience; beginning with five expanded and redesigned fan entrances, or injectors, along International Speedway Boulevard, according to the Speedway. Each injector would lead directly to a series of escalators and elevators that would transport fans to any of three different concourse levels, each featuring spacious and strategically-placed social "neighborhoods" along the nearly mile-long frontstretch. There will be no capacity changes for the 2014 Daytona 500, the Speedway says. The eventual decrease in capacity could occur in stages following next year's 500 and will include the complete removal of the backstretch grandstand by the start of the 2016 motorsports season. The changes will include the addition of 53 luxury suites.
