kicked it up a
notch at Budds
Creek, claiming win
number two on the
season.
Briefly...
Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki's lone remaining 450cc racer,
Tyla Rattray, has been showing promise since a disappointing
Hangtown debut. At Budds Creek,
he came through from well outside
the top 10 off of the start to actually
pass eventual overall podium finisher Trey Canard for seventh on his
way to the front when he went down
hard in the dreaded "rollers" before
the finish line and was forced out of
the moto. He didn't line up for moto
two, either. "When he crashed, it
kind of twisted his wrist or something," said team owner Mitch Payton. "So he came back [to the pits],
and then [before the] second moto
he said it hurt. He'll be all right for
next week though, he'll be fine."
FMF KTM's Mike Brown made his
2013 MX National debut at Budds
Creek. Having raced most of his
life at Muddy Creek Raceway in
Blountville, Tennessee – round

MX Championship – you would've
thought he'd have shown up there,
but his contract called for him to
race Baja, so he couldn't get away
for his home National. "In some
ways, I wish I could've been there,
but at the same time, it would've
been a lot of pressure," Brown said
prior to racing at Budds Creek. He
qualified easily at Budds Creek in
21st. "I'm not that great at putting in
just one really fast lap," Brown said,
"but I do think it would help if they
put some logs or tires out there."
Brown indicated that he hoped he
could get a start, and if he could,
he figured he could earn plenty
of points on the day. However, he
rounded the first lap in 28th and
27th, respectively, in the two mocontinued on page
