VOLUME 58 ISSUE 28 JULY 13, 2021 P55
Y
amaha turned its attention
on reducing unsprung
weight with its 2022
YZ250F and YZ450F moto-
crossers. The result? Both bikes
feature updated rear wheels.
The YZ250F is fitted with a
new 2.15-inch-wide rear rim,
which is paired to a 110-width
Dunlop Geomax MX33 tire to
serve up a wider footprint for
increased traction and better
bump absorption under hard
acceleration and cornering. In a
first on a Yamaha off-road com-
petition model, there is a new
three-cross spoke pattern on the
rear wheel which Yamaha claims
improves impact absorption
and overall feel. The rear wheel
hub has been re-engineered
to be thinner and lighter while
still retaining strength. Yamaha
says that together with a new
lightweight rear sprocket design
and new lightweight drive chain,
unsprung weight and driveline in-
ertia is reduced for more respon-
sive handling.
The new YZ450F features
the same updates as the 250F
except the width of its rim stays
the same as before.
Both bikes also get revised
suspension settings, and both
will be available with Monster
Energy Yamaha Racing Team
graphics.
Both the 2022 Yamaha
YZ250F ($8699) and YZ450F
($9799) will be available this
month.
