Behind them, Pless- inger's day was about to end early as something he happened to his engine and he rode off the side of the track in the third turn. He went back to the mechanics' area and tried to get back in the race but to no avail. "I had a really good day going and was feeling good up front but unfortunately had an issue that took me out of the second moto," he 450MX Ferrandis' day got off to a great start as he and teammate Aaron Plessinger took off with the first- moto lead. Barcia, who won his first national at Southwick way back in 2009, quickly dispatched Plessinger and set after Ferran- dis, but try as he might, the New Yorker could never quite close on the Frenchman. Still, his runner- up first-moto finish was his best of the season to date. "I got a good start in the first moto and led some laps, but I kind of fell out of the flow for a li le bit. The second moto was shaping up to be a good one but at the end of the first lap, Mar n had flipped, and I went down with him, which was a bummer. All in all, I think I showed some good speed today." Dylan Ferrandis made the best of a rare good start for the Frenchman. He went on to win the first moto and take the overall victory.
