last-corner overtake attempt
relatively benign. Bauman simply
squared up the corner and pow-
ered his way back past to claim
the checkered flag in what was
immediately recognized by all
involved as an instant classic.
"The main event was another
warzone," Bauman said. "We
went back and forth probably
a hundred times—I don't know,
I'm not a numbers guy. We just
kept switching lines to see what

But come the main event, Bau-
man responded like a champion.
He went blow for blow with
Robinson, as the two repeatedly
crisscrossed variable lines as
they swapped the lead back and
forth throughout.
Bauman dug deep over the
race's decisive final two laps,
opening just enough of a gap to
render Robinson's final-ditch,

his wife, Nichole, were once again promot-
ing. It didn't work out that way. A er
finishing eighth, he said, "It was awesome
to be back at Lima and my wife, Nichole,
did an awesome job. The track-prep crew
ba led some hard condi ons with the
high winds, and we were planning for
this big rainstorm that never came. They
did an amazing job keeping up with it all
day. But for me as a racer, I just sucked. It
wasn't my night. I didn't have confidence
in myself with my knee, but I don't want to
harp on that too much. All I'm going to say
is it wasn't my day, and I know I've got a
lot be er than that in me."

4TH SUPERTWINS
Brandon Price equaled his best result of
2021 with a fourth-place finish. While
he was nearly beat to the stripe by Kolby
Carlile, Price flashed the poten al to
challenge Briar Bauman and Brandon
Robinson in the early going. He said, "The
main event was pre y good. I had a really
good holeshot from the second row with
a high-low line off of turn two and passed
a few people. I was ba ling with Brandon
and Briar for a bit, but the track was pre y
gnarly I guess for my size, and my line kind
of got used up and I dri ed back a li le bit.
My teammate [Jarod Vanderkooi] caught
me and we had a pre y fun ba le back
and forth with him for quite a few laps,
and I just ended up fourth. It's a really
good rebound for me. I've been struggling
the past few weeks, and I'm excited to be
running back up front."
Bauman held off
Robinson to nab what
was a very timely and
important win for the
defending champ.
