LOOKING BACK
Kenny Roberts was pictured on the cover of Cycle News 40 years
ago to accompany our interview with the three-time World Champion
who was seeking his fourth title... We announced the six Trophy
Team riders who were going to represent the United States at the
upcoming ISDE in Elba, Italy. They were Frank Stacy, Mike Rosso,
Jeff Fredette, Dick Burleson, Terry Cunningham and Mike
Melton... Mickey Fay and Hank Scott split wins at the Santa Fe TT
doubleheader... Chuck Sun (500cc) and Mark Barnett (125cc) were
the big winners at the AMA National Motocross at Broome-Tioga.
Triumph-mounted Gene Romero finished ahead of Eddie Mulder, Jim
Rice and Mark Brelsford to win the San Jose Mile 50 years ago... The
Inter-AMA Viking Motocross Series moved to Coal Creek Raceway in
Denver, Colorado, where Keith Franzen came away with the overall win
in the 250 International class. Lars Larson won the 500cc National... We
reported that a Honda CB500 Four had won the 24-Hour Production Road
Race at Nelson Ledges... Mike Patrick and Phil Bowers teamed up and
won the Adelanto 200 cross-country race.
