MOTOCROSS LUCAS OIL AMA PRO MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 3 / JUNE 19, 2021 HIGH POINT RACEWAY / MOUNT MORRIS, PENNSYLVANIA P62 rather quickly and once I was in the clean air, I rode my own race and started pulling away." Behind him, Ferrandis, a poor-starting-but-early-charging Roczen and, for a while, Cian- ciarulo put on an exciting battle for the overall that at times had them going three-wide around some of the big sweeping corners. Once Ferrandis and Roczen were clear of the other Kawasaki, they focused on one another in what appeared to be a clean and entertaining duel to the finish, with the advantage, the overall and the points lead all going to the Frenchman. "I had a lot of fun, and to beat these guys is quite a good feel- ing," said Ferrandis after taking his second 450 win in three rounds of the series to date. "Sometimes as a racer you dig so deep that to win is all that matters, and you forget to have fun, but today I had a lot lieve with a little more endurance, I can be a regular winner this season. We have another break coming up, but I'm ready to build off of this and get back to racing." As for Tomac, the three-time 450MX Champion was off to a slow start this summer. He had yet to finish in the top five in a moto, and, in fact, was sixth in the first moto at High Point. But something seemed to click for the veteran in the second moto, and he put in his best effort of the season in moving to the front and then holding a good gap on everyone else until the end. "This was a big one for us. I've been in a bit of slump these last two races, so to get a win and feel like myself on the bike again is huge," said Tomac afterwards. "After I got off the gate in moto two and saw I had a good jump, I knew it was going to be a good moto. I was able to catch Adam REMEMBERING SHEAK Amy Sheak, the widow of 1997 High Point 125 National winner Scott Sheak, and her daughter Brooke drove down from their home in New York to take part in a celebration of life for Sheak, who passed away in May. Amy Sheak got to visit with Scott's old boss Mitch Payton at Pro Circuit Kawasaki, as well as a chance to thank Team Honda's Erik Kehoe in person for his team run- ning a decal honoring Sheak at the series opener. (Sheak was a mem- ber of Team Honda in 1997 when he won at High Point.) The Sheaks also took part in the opening ceremony down on the podium, where they were greeted by a fan who pulled out one of Sheak's #26 jerseys from his Pro Circuit days. STUCK TOGETHER Jo Shimoda, who finished a career- best fourth overall at the last round in Colorado, spent the first two laps of the second moto with his bike stuck together with Riders Unlimited KTM privateer Jack Chambers in the first turn. Shimoda's throttle-side handlebar had gone down into the swingarm, chain and sprocket of Chamber's bike, and several officials had to literally carry the two bikes off together to clear the track, and then ultimately cut the chain off Cham- bers' bike to separate them. HIGH POINT NOTES: There were a total of 86 entries in the 450 class and 69 in the 250 class… Dylan Ferrandis' riding coach and trainer, David Vuillemin, was not at High Point Raceway, but the fans there are very familiar with "Le Cobra"—he won the High Point 250 National twice (2000 Briefly... Husqvarna's Jalek Swoll got to celebrate both his first career 250MX moto win and overall victory in the same day.
