MOTOGP FIM MOTOGP WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 6 / MAY 28-30, 2021 AUTODROMO DEL MUGELLO / TUSCANY, ITALY P88 Moto3 Home boy Dennis Foggia (Leop- ard Racing Honda) won the Moto3 race by 0.036 seconds over runner-up Jaume Masia (Red Bull KTM Ajo) to pick his first win of 2021, as Gabriel Rodrigo (In- donesian Racing Gresini Moto3) cemented his first podium of the season with third place. MYOWNRACE 41 ALEIX ESPARGARO 7TH MOTOGP "We con nue to be in the leading group and this is undoubtedly a good sign for me and for Aprilia," said Aleix Espargaro who is s ll recovering from an arm injury. "However, I feel like I could have achieved more today. Unfortunately, I didn't find the same, outstanding sensa ons that I had during prac ce on the RS-GP. I was missing something in accelera on. We s ll haven't been able to explain it, but we were less incisive compared with yesterday. S ll, finishing so close to the podium here, as well, is a result to be proud of. Another posi ve note is that the arm reacted be er than expected." 21 FRANCO MORBIDELLI 16TH MOTOGP "Today was very difficult to concen- trate and be focused for the race because of the very sad news that we received before the race," Morbidelli said. "Regarding the race, another rider crashed in front of me on the second lap and I had to avoid both him and his bike. I had to try not to crash myself as well, which I managed, but it cost me a lot of me and I was unable to stay with the pack. Anyway, I didn't have the speed that I would have wanted today, and overall, it just wasn't the best of days for many reasons." MOTO3 PENALTIES FOR MOTOGP? Fabio Quartararo, Jack Miller and Joan Mir all called for Moto3-esque penalties to be handed out to a num- ber of MotoGP riders, after the end of Friday's FP2 was marked by touring on the edge of the track. Quartararo was visibly upset by the antics, with as many as eight riders touring on the outside of the track, forcing the Frenchman to abandon one of his fly- ing laps. "We have to take the same measures in all the categories," said Mir. "It's a dangerous situation for sure." Miller was even more vocal, claiming the MotoGP riders should be setting an example for the other categories, rather than succumbing to their worst habits. "There were so many guys in one group. There is no need for it. We don't need to slip- stream, and it doesn't make a differ- ence for us. They are just looking for a tow and it's ridiculous. If you cannot do the lap-time, then don't do it." YAMAHA'S HOLESHOT DEVICE Qualifying hasn't been a problem for Fabio Quartararo in 2021. But starting has. However, his attempts to get off the line in Mugello were boosted by the arrival of Yamaha's first holeshot device. The M1 was the only machine on the grid which didn't feature the front fork mechanism that locks the suspension of the machine in a com- pressed position on the grid to lower the center of gravity and thus reduce Briefly... Local favorite Dennis Foggia took the Moto3 win over Jaume Masia for his first victory of 2021.
