MOTOCROSS LUCAS OIL PRO MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 1 / MAY 29, 2021 FOX RACEWAY / PALA, CALIFORNIA P74 and Rockstar Husqvarna's Jason Anderson in 10th. When the second 450MX moto started it was Plessinger surging into the lead, only to be dispatched by Roczen, who looked much more inspired and comfortable than he did in the first moto. Cianciarulo, a better- starting Osborne, Barcia and Webb followed. Ferrandis was right around 10th. And on the ground back in the second turn was Sexton, who would pass the first timing lap in 38th place after being involved in a multi-rider pileup just past the first turn. With the already challenging track really starting to show the effects of traffic all day long, Roczen and Plessinger pulled would battle all the way to the checkered flag, finishing almost side by side, with the Frenchman claiming victory by just 0.099 seconds. "I got a pretty good start," said Sexton. "[But] I kind of went backwards a little bit and then found my groove and charged forward. I made a good push towards the end and got close to Dylan but couldn't quite make it happen." Barcia, admittedly not a fan of the track, still scored an impres- sive third, followed by Plessing- er, Webb and Roczen. Cian- ciarulo, who said later he was dealing with arm-pump issues af- ter his crash, was next, followed by Musquin, an off-song Tomac MCADOO DINGED UP Cameron McAdoo pulled out of moto two with a knee injury. "This was a hard pill to swallow," said McAdoo (Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki). "I hurt my leg and it started giving me problems early into moto two, so I will need to get it checked out before we head to Colorado." After the race, his Team Manager Mitch Payton said that McAdoo most likely either suffered a damaged ligament or broke a bone above the knee but will not know for sure until a full examination. FULL FORCE The Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki Team (250MX) was in full force at Pala with Seth Hammaker, McAdoo, Jo Shimoda and Austin Forkner all back in action, but all four suffered crashes at one time or another. For Forkner (7-8), it was his first race outdoors since 2018. "It was nice to finally get in a round of motocross after so long watching from my living room," said Forkner. "While I wanted to be able to run more at the front with those guys, we also wanted to make sure we got through the race learning some things and keeping in mind that this season is long." For Hammaker, it was his first race outdoors as a pro. He went 11-23 for 16th overall. HONORING SHEAK Team Honda HRC marked the May 18 passing of former factory moto- crosser Scott Sheak with "RIP Iron Sheak" stickers on their race bikes' front fenders. Sheak, who rode for Team Honda in 1997, succumbed to complications resulting from injuries in a training crash in his home state of New York. Briefly... Ken Roczen came out of seemingly nowhere to win the second 450MX moto after finishing a quiet sixth in moto one. It was his first moto win since 2018.
