Texas Half-Mile Rained Out
I
t was a long and disappointing
day for the racers and crews
who showed up for the Texas
Half-Mile at Texas Motor Speed-
way in Fort Worth, Texas, May
22. The threat of rain eventually
turned into reality, forcing AFT
officials to cancel the race late
Saturday after being in a hold-
ing pattern for much of the day.
The heavy rain did its damage
Saturday evening, and the threat
of even more rain Sunday pre-
vented the race from happening
on Sunday, as well.
The Texas Half-Mile will not be
rescheduled.
Once the decision was made
to ground the race, AFT made
it official with this release: "Due
to the continued and anticipated
rainfall at Texas Motor Speed-
way, the 2021 Mission Foods
Texas Half-Mile presented by
Roof Systems has been can-
celled. Despite the dedicated ef-
forts of the Progressive AFT track
prep crew, the heavy rainfall
expected to continue throughout
the evening will prevent the event
from continuing Sunday.
"Fans who have purchased
tickets may receive a credit to
be used for any race promoted
by AFT Events within the 2021
calendar year—including the
June 18-19 OKC Mile double-
header—or a refund for the
canceled event. Customers who
have purchased advance tickets
will be contacted directly by AFT
Events with further information."
The racers did get some seat
time in, though. Practice and the
first round of qualifying were held
before things came to a halt. Up
to that point, Briar Bauman had
notched the quickest lap in the
SuperTwins class just ahead of
Jared Mees, Bronson Bauman
and Sammy Halbert.
The next race, the Chicago
Half-Mile in Juliet, Illinois, is
scheduled for May 29 at the Dirt
Oval Route 66 facility.

For obvious reasons,
the May 22 Texas Half-
Mile in Fort Worth,
Texas, was canceled.
