ROAD RACE FIM WORLDSBK CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 1 / MAY 21-23, 2021 MOTORLAND ARAGON / TERUEL, SPAIN P82 BMW's day was getting even better, as Sykes came through to fourth from 10th on the grid, a re- markable recovery and he even beat his resurgent new team- mate, Van der Mark into fifth place. Behind him in race two was the combative Razgatlioglu, who had to settle for sixth. The top points scorers so far are Rea at 57, Lowes at 45, Red- ding at 40, Razgatlioglu with 30 and Sykes, 23. Scoring over 100 race wins, the vast bulk on Kawasakis, pro- jected Rea to legend status even more but his legend is alive, well and clearly hungry for more. and I really feel bad about that. I was glad I was able to talk with him and everything. I got back on the bike as quick as I could. The bike never turned off, which is awesome, and I tried to clear my head and just ride. "Luckily everything was work- ing good, just had a bit of a bent bar. The bike crashed really well, and I was able to keep going." The battle for third place was epic at times, but Alex Lowes was to take three podiums in three starts, a great turnaround after hurting his shoulder in a winter training accident. Behind the podium places "[I] just want to say I'm sorry to the whole Kawasaki team and Jonathan, because that defi- nitely wasn't my intention what happened," Gerloff said of the incident. "My intention was not to try to pass, I just went up to brake with Jonathan, but he was braking a little bit more than I was going to brake and I tried to grab the brake as hard as I could but I just wasn't stopping. The options were shrinking and shrinking on what to do and my option was to try to go up the inside and release the brake before he does and not have any contact. But it didn't happen. It was my fault, Scott Redding put slicks on his Ducati on a drying track. It proved to be the right choice and he won at a canter. Gerloff's teammate Kohta Nozane leads BMW's Jonas Folger and Tito Rabat. Rabat would crash in race one and suffer an engine failure in race two.
