Cycle News tested the new Yamaha 550 Seca and pictured it on the cover
40 years ago. We said, "Most people will be happy with their purchase of
the new Seca 550"... Southwick MX338 hosted round five of the 250cc
and round one of the 500cc MX National Championships; Kent Howerton
out-dueled Bob Hannah for the 250cc win while Broc Glover fired first
in the 500cc class... We had race coverage from both Hockenheim and
Austrian rounds of the 500cc Road Race Series; Kenny Roberts won at
Hockenheim and Randy Mamola at Salzburging.

LOOKING BACK I
We were concerned about new anti-motorcycle legislation that was designed
to seriously curb off-road motorcycling (and pretty much all off-roading) in
California, and we laid out all the words right in front of you on the cover 50
years ago... We covered the Evel Knievel $10,000 motocross race that was
held at the soon-to-be Snake River Canyon Jump site in Twin Falls, Idaho.
Bob Grossi and Gary Jones were the weekend's big money makers... W.E.
Bundock set a new time record riding a motorcycle (a Triumph) from Mexico
to Canada, aka the "3-Flags Run." He did it in 23 hours.
