Ferrandis was awarded the 450SX Rookie of the Year in Salt Lake, and used some of that momentum to capture a fourth- place finish on the night. This bolstered his overall results to seventh on the year just behind his Yamaha teammate Stewart who finished the season sixth. Roczen had a night he'd rather forget. The Honda rider needed to win to have any shot at the title and got up front early in typical Roczen fashion. After a few laps he relinquished the lead to teammate Sexton but rode through the field. He took over the lead from Roczen and led most of the race before handing first and second to the KTM duo of Webb and Musquin. "I saw halfway and was like 'man I feel like I've done 30 laps already,'" Sexton said. "I just got a little winded and started mak- ing mistakes and Cooper came up and got me and it was just history from there." The battle for points contin- ued with Jason Anderson, Dylan Ferrandis and Malcom Stewart all jockeying for position. Results on paper won't show Anderson's progress late in the season, as the Husqvarna rider has really come on strong lately. He had on Sexton with two laps remain- ing and secured a 1-2 finish for the Red Bull KTM team. "I'm very happy to finish this season on a very, very high note," Musquin said on the podi- um. "I saw Cooper going around Kenny and I thought 'Maybe I'll try to get around those two if they are messing with each other.' Then I got Chase with two laps to go, and my heart rate was super high, but it just feels so good when you give it your best." Chase Sexton rounded out the podium on Saturday night.
