still had a shot at the title but was in a must-win (with plenty of help) situation. With the championship in a longshot situation, there were other points races to watch for. Inside the top 10, riders like Jason Anderson, Dylan Ferrandis and Malcolm Stewart were still battling to secure sixth through eighth in the championship. The "Webb Wagon" was full steam ahead in Salt Lake. A third- place start behind Roczen and Musquin quickly turned into sec- ond, stalking his title rival. Webb looked to be riding conservatively at times, and even dropped back to third after giving Chase Sexton (Honda HRC) the second posi- tion. Something changed at the halfway mark, though, and it was clear that Webb wanted to win. With Sexton making his way to the front, after passing his team- mate Roczen, Webb rode right up to the back wheel of Roczen and dealt with brake checks and blocks for several laps. Eventually, Webb was able to swing wide and cut across Roczen's line, nudg- ing him out of the way and taking over the second spot. Webb then set his sights on the race leader Sexton and was able to make the pass with less than five minutes remaining. From that point on, it was game over for the competi- tion. He put his head down and clicked off the remaining laps, 29 in total when the checkers waved. Saturday night's statement win re- ally proved why the number-two is back to being number one. 64 COLT NICHOLS 2ND 250SX "It would have been nice to get the win, but I can't complain about second place," said new 250SX East Champion Colt Nichols. "I think I might be the only person to be on the podium at all nine rounds so I'm happy about that. I was off all day. I couldn't really loosen up. I was able to get a good start and lead some laps and had a fun ba le with the Lawrence brothers. It's an amazing feeling [to win the champion- ship]. I haven't ever been in a posi on to be a contender in the past and this year I put myself in a good spot. It's a dream come true." MYOWNRACE 32 JUSTIN COOPER 9TH 250SX "It honestly didn't go that well tonight and the night show felt a li le like a disaster," admi ed the new 250SX West Champion, Jus n Cooper. "I just stayed midpack and knew what I had to do to bring it home. It was a long 15 minutes. I knew where I was. I had won races, but it felt so different. I didn't really know what to feel. It's going to sink in over the next few days and I know it will be good."
