Shimoda must have got that
memo because the young Japa-
nese racer came out swinging
in Saturday night's main event.
The Monster Energy/Pro Circuit
Kawasaki Team rider grabbed
the holeshot and the early
lead, fending off challenges by
Michael Mosiman and former
teammate Jett Lawrence along
the way. Shimoda lead every lap
of the 19-lap race and went on to
take his first career 250SX win.
showing a fractured fibula and an
ankle sprain. This turn of events
is devastating for Craig in his first
year with the Monster Energy
Star Racing Yamaha team. After
the checkers flew on the night,
he had dropped to third in the
championship and will likely lose
more ground come Saturday.
With news of Craig pulling out
of the night's racing, it seemed
that Nichols was a shoe-in for the
championship. He would only
need to finish ahead of Jo Shi-
moda to lock up the title a round
early. But guess who won?
Jo Shimoda had
to win to keep his
title hopes alive
in the 250SX East
Championship.
His career-first
Supercross victory
came just at the
right time.
