Gerston Tops Arizona ISDE West Qualifier M ax Gerston rode his Max Off-Road/Klim-backed GasGas to the win both days at round two of the AMA West ISDE Qualifier Series, hosted by the Arizona Trail Riders, in Prescott, Arizona, April 17-18. The sprint format featured one 35-mile loop with three tests along it. "On Saturday, I felt like I was pushing hard and got a little squirrely, but I felt good taking the day-one win," said Gerston. "On day two, I worked my way into the rhythm and just let the 350 eat and came out on top." He traded test wins with Purvines Racing/Moose Gas- Gas-mounted Axel Pearson until Pearson smashed his foot on a rock during test three. It took longer than he would have liked to recover. "I really wish I would have just kept riding," Pearson said. "I really thought my foot was broken and I spent way too long worrying about it." Pearson finished fifth Letter of Intent on day one, but he found his momentum again on day two winning every test of the day and taking the Sunday win and sec- ond overall on the weekend. Mojo Motorsports-backed Anthony Ferrante rode his KTM 250 XCF to a win on day one for the LOI riders. "I put together a few smooth tests and kept it consistent and came out on top," said Ferrante. "I was hoping for the same thing on Sunday but a few mistakes dropped me down to sixth but I'll take it." The Reality Provid- ers Husqvarna of Alec Brawner was con- sistent all weekend and he sandwiched himself between the LOI riders, finishing third overall when both days were combined. Rocky Mountain ATV-MC/ Fly Racing KTM's Josh Knight came out looking to qualify for his fifth ISDE trip and ended up with a solid second on Saturday and fourth on Sunday, giving him fourth overall on the week- end with the Power Motorsports KTM of Nate Ferderer looking to qualify for his fourth ISDE with a consistent third both days for fifth overall on the weekend. Fred Hoess came out to qual- ify for his 28th ISDE in the E4 class. He would take the win on Saturday but nagging mechani- cal issues during the entire event took him out of the weekend. Washington's John Beal fin- ished second to Hoess by two seconds on Saturday and took the E4 win on Sunday. The final AMA West ISDE Qualifier will be held in Craig, Colorado, May 22-23. CN OVERALL 1.
