Alex Jorgensen out-dueled Scott Parker to win the Sacramento Mile... The third round of the 125/250cc AMA Motocross National was held at Lake Whitney Cycle Ranch, where Suzuki riders Mark Barnett and Kent Howerton came away with the overall wins... Mike Melton won the Little Harpeth National Enduro in Tennessee... We interviewed Jimmy Filice. 40 Years Ago APRIL 22, 1981 LOOKING BACK I We gave you close-up looks at many of the factory motocross bikes on the 1981 circuit 40 years ago, and KX250, was pictured on the cover... Parker AMA Motocross National was held at Lake Whitney Cycle Ranch, where Suzuki riders overall wins... Tennessee... We interviewed 40 40 We featured actor Steve McQueen on the cover of Cycle News 50 years ago. We interviewed the movie star who was an avid motorcycle fan and racer... One of our featured race coverages was the Viewfinders Grand Prix, which was held at Indian Dunes. Billy Clement was the overall winner. Gary Jones was the 250cc Expert-class winner. His brother, DeWayne, was running second when he ran out of gas just before the finish line... Tim Hart and John DeSoto entertained the crowd as they battled at Ascot night motocross. Years Ago Kent Howerton's works Suzuki RH250 was one of the bikes featured in our factory bike close- ups 40 years ago. (Right) Travis Pastrana (199), pictured alongside Mike Brown, clinched the 125cc East Supercross Championship 20 years ago.
