Baja 500 with teammates David
Kamo and Colton Udall, the AMA
West Coast Grand Prix feature
was guaranteed to have a new
winner. And that man turned out
to be Justin Seeds.

on good starts and meant passing opportunities were extremely
limited - basically available only
on the motocross track.
Seeds didn't lead the whole
way in Saturday's race, trailing
Big 6 newcomer Brett Hottel and
Blayne Thompson for a couple
laps. Honda-mounted Thompson
started dropping off the pace
after Seeds got him about 30
minutes into the 90-minute race.
Seeds then chipped away at Hottel's lead, passing him for first at
about the hour mark and taking

his first victory of the season with
a 38-second margin over Hottel.
The two Kawasaki riders were
well clear of Johnny Campbell
Racing/Rockstar Energy Honda-supported Evan Kelly who'd
missed any chance at practice
since he was down in Baja for
the 500 along with the rest of
the JCR gang. Unfortunately for
him and teammate Ian Young,
their bike refused to start once
Kelly rolled up to the starting line
that morning so, bitterly disappointed, he hopped in his van
and headed north earlier than
expected. (The original plan was
to go to the Big 6 after finishing
the 500.) He got there in time
