ROUND 2/MAY 29-JUNE 2, 2013 ENSENADA, B.C. MEXICO OFF-ROAD P68 45TH SCORE DESERT RACING SERIES No Catching HONDA TIM WEIGAND, COLTON UDALL AND DAVID KAMO LEAVE CHALLENGERS HURTING AT BAJA 500. BY BRIAN FARIS AND MARK KARIYA PHOTOGRAPHY BY MARK KARIYA R ockstar/JCR Racing-American Honda Team riders Tim Weigand, Colton Udall and David Kamo left everyone in their dust at this year's Tecate SCORE Baja 500. The Honda trio flat out dominated the race, leaving in their wake a trail of bent bikes and battered bodies. Challengers Kurt Caselli hobbled off with an injured wrist, as did David Pearson with a jammed back and Robby Bell with a twisted ankle. Ryan Abbatoye was slowed with a knuckle full of thorns, and Baja vet Steve Hengeveld ended up in the hospital with a broken leg and ankle. It wasn't pretty. But the Honda came through smelling like a rose. Udall took over the physical lead when he passed Pearson, on the Kawasaki, after The Summit. "I passed him at mile 125 - wide open through the wash," said Udall, who was quite happy to get his first Baja 500 win. Colton Udall exits the Ensenada wash with less than a mile to go on city streets. He and teammates David Kamo and Timmy Weigand were the only entry (four-wheel included) to complete the 501 miles in less than 10 hours, stopping the clock at nine hours, 46 minutes and 50 seconds in what was a trouble-free ride. (Trophy truck winner Robby Gordon was next fastest at 10:05:44.)
